The artists of Colectivo Último specialize in digital illustration, animation, and 3D art, and have dedicated themselves to connecting Guatemala with the burgeoning world of Crypto Art and NFTs. These new spheres for exhibiting and selling art online have quickly and dramatically opened an unexpected range of opportunities for digital artists, partly by decentralizing the art market and dissolving certain former barriers, and partly by exploding traditional notions of what constitutes an original artwork. 

With MEA CULPA, Colectivo Último explores themes that likewise explode our personal relationship with the traditions of the digital realm. In their view, our online behaviors stem from living in a society that frequently uses the masks of religion, politics, and media to ostracize those outside the status quo, leading us to feel guilty or resort to self-censorship when we oppose the norm. Their pieces invite us to ask, what exactly are our sins, and how do we defend ourselves? Right as Crypto Art and NFTs have recently shaken the art world, it seems a suitable moment to examine digital martyrs versus business-as-usual.

Los artistas de Colectivo Último se especializan en ilustración digital, animación y arte 3D, y se han dedicado a conectar a Guatemala con el floreciente mundo del Crypto Arte y NFTs. Estas nuevas esferas para exhibir y vender arte en línea han abierto rápida y dramáticamente una gama inesperada de oportunidades para los artistas digitales, en parte al descentralizar el mercado del arte y disolver ciertas barreras anteriores, y en parte al hacer estallar las nociones tradicionales de lo que constituye una obra de arte original.

Con MEA CULPA, Colectivo Último explora temas que también hacen estallar nuestra relación personal con las tradiciones del mundo digital. En su opinión, nuestros comportamientos en línea se derivan de vivir en una sociedad que con frecuencia usa las máscaras de la religión, la política y los medios de comunicación para condenar al ostracismo a quienes están fuera del status quo, lo que nos lleva a sentirnos culpables o recurrir a la autocensura cuando nos oponemos a la norma. Sus piezas nos invitan a preguntarnos, ¿cuáles son exáctamente nuestros pecados y cómo nos defendemos? Justo cuando Crypto Arte y NFTs han sacudido recientemente el mundo del arte, parece un momento adecuado para examinar mártires digitales frente a los negocios habituales.
