La Nueva Fábrica
La Nueva Fábrica is an art space in Antigua, Guatemala that supports creative exploration through galleries for exhibitions and community events, an artist residency program, and multidisciplinary workshops and studios.
As Founding Director and part of the core team that designed and built the new space, Sarah helped lead the original project planning, interior architecture, curation, branding, hiring, and organizational strategy.
Grand opening: February 2019
-
The Galleries
Sarah’s work supported the initial design of six different rotating galleries, the production of several shows, and the curation of La Nueva Fábrica’s exhibits.
-
The Garden
Sarah led the landscape design of the interior garden, which flows from the main gallery and was conceived to act as a multi-use event space, amphitheater, and stage.
-
The Store
Sarah worked closely on the store’s interior design, furniture design, and curating products that have a positive impact on local communities, artists, and the environment.
-
The Front Desk
Sarah led the design of La Nueva Fabrica’s reception desk, using sustainable guanacaste wood and perforated metal, which reflects the original textile factory’s pattern cards.
-
Event Programming
Sarah oversaw planning and coordination of events within La Nueva Fábrica, including artist talks, workshops, concerts, and panel discussions.
-
Proyecto Íntimo
Sarah helped initiate a program where emerging artists in Guatemala can apply to exhibit and/or host artistic interventions or projects within the space.
-
Construction
Sarah was part of the core team of designers who worked directly with the architect and contractors on a regular basis to plan and build the space.
-
Artist Residency
Since before La Nueva Fábrica opened, Sarah coordinated the artist residency that operates within the partnering textile atelier with dozens of artists from around the world.
