How would you feel stepping onto a stool that looks decayed - even if it is perfectly capable of bearing weight?
Would you would keep furniture that looks to be riddled with termite paths inside your home - usually a sign it should be removed outdoors?
For this piece, Sarah Alix used 3D scanning to emulate the patterns left by termite damage in an exploration of “decomposing” objects within the home.
Nature and technology take turns in her work, flipping creation and decay, the difficulty of fighting termites with the difficulty of replicating their effects by hand, and the energy termites generate by eating wood versus the energy expended to carve out the stool.

These pieces are all hand-made to order. Once we recive your order and material specifications from Normal Objects, the piece takes about 3-4 weeks to produce and ship.
