Silla Telar:
Now at Mexico Design Week
(Oct ‘24 - Jan -25)
Segundo Piso is our interdisciplinary design collaborative exploring the relationship between craft, technology, and nature.
Silla Telar started with the question, “What would an artisan's place of recognition look like when its form and function center around the reality of their labor?”
As designers who likewise regularly make pieces with their own hands, Segundo Piso intentionally began their research for this piece with the daily realities of pedal weaving and loom-making as their guides.
During conversations with Susi Vicente, a master weaver in Oaxaca, the designers at Segundo Piso discovered that she enjoys spending her work day between her hammock and her loom - where she often weaves for her own artistic practice. Therefore, Silla Telar is this artisan’s seat of power and repose, celebrating her creative space by combining structural elements of a Oaxacan pedal loom with the comfort of a hammock.
